from Blackwater Quartet, selection 90
Solitudes and Requirements
In the country you abandoned
a raw month remembers every year away.
The wind is a face you knew,
stretched and skewed now
daring you to answer.
You write your name over and over
rehearsing your life, the cries of distant birds
cold and constant, too far away to hear.
Nice reflection. Just for memory's sake ....
ReplyDeleteAPOLOGIES AND REGRETS
In the country that abandoned us
every jagged hour forgets
all its days and nights.
Our faces set as opposing flint
now flaked away in chalky memories
scrawled across these many years gone.
What was in our names drained away our lives;
unspoken apologies drowned silently in icy pools
of swirling blackwater regrets.
